Jean Giraud Moebius. If you're unfamiliar with this chap then check out this for a C.V! (comics) The Silver Surfer, XII, (films) Tron, Alien, Heavy Metal Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Dune, Willow, The Fifth Element, Space Jam and The Abyss. (games) Fade to Black, Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set Radio Future. He was also good mates with Hayao Miyazaki and even named his daughter Nausicaa. His style is very similar to Windsor Mccays and references to his work, resulted in him assisting with the production of the animated adaptation of Little Nemo. Adventures in Slumberland. Moebius, Mccay and Miyazaki are exceptionally talented and creative illustrators. Their styles are similar and their intricate line creates a lot of flow in their work, using the direction of the line to create a sense of three dimensional form and depth. Though I'd say Miyazaki's compositions are often cramped. Here they are side by side. Moebius Windsor Miyazaki Though Moebius's work isn't so accessible as a lot of it has gone out of print and neither the collage library nor my local library are able to order them. They rarely appear on Ebay but think I might treat myself as its nearing Christmas. Sadly he passed away without my knowing in 2010.. Anyhew the dudes a legend!
